Quick Summary
This article answers the most common questions about marketing attribution, tracking, Google Analytics 4 (GA4), redirects, and Tracking IDs within Trainin.
Why This Matters
Tracking can help you understand how clients discover and purchase your products. However, browser restrictions, privacy settings, and payment flows can affect what data is collected and reported.
Understanding how tracking works helps you interpret your analytics correctly and make informed marketing decisions.
Common Questions
1) Why are not all payments being tracked?
Verify that trackingconsent=yes has been added to the URL.
Tracking only takes place on pages and widgets where tracking has been enabled through the URL. These URLs are typically placed on your website or shared directly with clients.
If clients navigate directly to the client environment or use the Native App and then make a purchase, no tracking will take place.
Many users block tracking through browser settings or privacy tools.
In practice, this means that most payments cannot be measured accurately.
To gain additional insight into how clients discover and purchase products, you may consider the following options:
Configure a redirect URL (see Marketing > Redirects in the Business Portal).
Display a checkout field where clients can indicate how they found your business (see Settings > Clients in the Business Portal).
2) Which events are tracked in GA4?
We currently track 2 events: purchase and pageview.
When a client reaches the confirmation page after checkout, a purchase event is triggered. This applies to both paid and free products.
You can test these events using Google Tag Assistant.
3) How do I configure cross-domain tracking for a Tracking ID?
It is important that a tracking session is recognised as a single session.
If traffic is only being reported as direct traffic, your cross-domain configuration may not be set up correctly even if the same Tracking ID is being used.
We recommend reviewing the following Google article:
https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/10071811If you use a Tracking ID, make sure to add your Trainin URL as an additional domain.
You may also want to exclude the Mollie URL from tracking. Payments are processed through Mollie before users are redirected back to Trainin, which may impact attribution.
4) Can I combine a Tracking ID and a redirect?
Yes, a Tracking ID and redirect can be used together.
However, when a redirect is configured, users are redirected directly from Mollie to the configured redirect page.
Users can still be tracked on your website if tracking has been configured correctly.
However, no purchase event will be triggered within the Trainin application.
5) Should I exclude the Trainin URL when using redirects only?
If you use redirects without tracking consent, we recommend excluding the Trainin URL from tracking.

6) Why can't I add a Google Tag Manager container?
We do not allow Google Tag Manager IDs (GTM-XXXXX) to be added.
A GTM container can modify website behaviour, which means we cannot guarantee the security and stability of the platform.
For the same reason, custom code and custom scripts cannot be added to the application.
7) How long does tracking remain active after someone clicks a tracked URL?
Tracking remains active for 60 minutes after a user clicks a URL containing tracking.
The timer is refreshed every time the tracking script is loaded.
For example, the timer resets when a user moves from a widget to checkout.
The timer also resets when a user returns from Mollie to Trainin or navigates between pages.
